Benefits of Drinking Matcha Tea
Matcha tea promises several health benefits and a boost in energy levels.
Its high concentration of L-theanine and flavonoids contributes to increasing the brain’s alpha frequency band, raises serotonin, and produces relaxing effects for anyone who drinks it.
In a research study, L-theanine was shown to be beneficial to anxiety and stress as well as increased relaxation without the side effects of drowsiness. In a cup of matcha tea, lies all of this goodness! How is that an option?
Did you know, that, unlike coffee, matcha produces little or no jitters?
More so, the formidable combination of L-theanine and caffeine improves on cognitive function and increases alertness and focus.
Therefore, you can start your day with a cup of matcha tea, and drink a cup of matcha tea before any mental exercise. It sure helps!
Health benefits
Below are a few benefits associated with drinking matcha tea:
- Promotes relaxation
- Positively boosts your mood
- Helps maintain healthy body weight
- Sustains energy
According to the Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC) Test, matcha tea contains a lot of catechins (an antioxidant found in tea) and ranks very high among other superfoods in terms of antioxidants.
Therefore, when you consider eliminating free radicals, protecting your heart, and preventing cancer, matcha tea stands tall as a great option!
How I consume matcha tea
Matcha tea could be consumed hot or cold.
Requirements
- 2 tablespoons full of matcha powder
- 8 ounces of hot water
- 1 tablespoon full of honey or maple syrup (optional)
- If you enjoy milk, you might incorporate some to do a latte.
- Bamboo whisk.
Way to go about it
- Combine matcha powder with 3 ounces of water to form a thick paste.
- Use the bamboo whisk in whisking the matcha paste in a zig-zag pattern to produce a frothy consistency.
- To avoid lumping, add more water as you whisk.
- If you like it sweet, add honey or maple syrup to your taste.
I also include matcha powder in my banana bread made with oat flour. I can assure you, this tastes like heaven!
Side effects
When consumed in moderation, there are insignificant side effects whereas higher amounts imply more caffeine, and could lead to headaches, insomnia, and irritability.
Caution
Do not drink too much in a day.
Because everyone’s health status is different, always inform your doctor in situations of doubt.
Now you know about the goodness of matcha tea. What are you waiting for?
Go get some for yourself!
