Nearly 9 of out ten women have some amount of cellulite on one or several parts of their bodies, and relentlessly find ways of getting rid of them.
Therefore, if you have cellulite, please, relax, because there are so many members in this club, and I am one too!
These days, several women are spending millions of dollars on anti-cellulite quick fixes such as lasering, liposuction as well as alternative surgical methods geared towards getting rid of cellulite.
Some might tend to ignore the possible downsides of some of these procedures. As a result, they end up with some ugly consequences they might have to deal with for a long time.
What is cellulite?
Our bodies are made up of several types of tissues, and one of them is called, connective tissues.
When pockets of fats begin pushing up against connective tissues underneath the skin, cellulite occurs, thus forming those lumpy, bulging, dimpled, annoying, grapefruit rind or cottage cheese-like uneven appearance on the thighs, buttocks, bellies, back, and arms.

Who can have cellulite?
Generally, as one age, certain physiological changes begin to happen, and adults tend to develop some areas of loose skin.
When fat deposits underneath the skin present an uneven texture, cellulite occurs. Cellulite could be found more in women than men because women have thinner skin tissues. Furthermore, these tissues are less porous as compared to those of men.
Therefore, when the fat deposits raise their annoying heads, it becomes more noticeable in women. Cellulite can develop in anyone dealing with hormonal and over-weight problems, and that includes teenagers.
Can cellulite be prevented/cured?
I do not know of any existing therapy that completely effaces cellulite. I, however, can only share with you, some natural ways I have used/ continue to use to minimize the formation of cellulite. Here are 5 very effective natural ways of keeping the formation of cellulite in check:
Check your salt and sugar consumption
How much sugar and salt do you consume? When you eat plenty of sugar, it gets stored in your fat cells, and this exacerbates the condition by causing the cellulite to expand even further.
On the other hand, the presence of sodium in salt encourages fluid retention; which aggravates the entire thing. Is this ringing a bell in someone’s ears? I guess so!
How healthy are your meals? When you make a habit of eating healthy meals, you can reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Eat flaxseeds
Flaxseeds regulate estrogen levels and improve collagen production, which makes them a great food choice for skin and weight management. Include some flaxseeds in your bowl of cereal, or smoothie, or just eat them straight out (preferably ground to increase the bioavailability of omega-3).
Increase your water intake
Drink water, because hydration is an all-time beauty secret!
Water aids in the elimination of those ugly toxins that are finding a haven underneath your skin, thus enhancing the visibility of these annoying lumps.
By drinking plenty of water, your skin stays evenly plumped, hence reducing the appearance of cellulite.
You can also stay hydrated by eating cucumbers, fruits with a very low glycemic index (examples include grapefruits, pears, cherries, blueberries), fresh herbs, and celery.
Eat foods rich in fiber
Your colon would thank you for eating foods rich in fiber, because of their cleansing effect. Fiber will promote a better metabolism for you, curb your hunger pangs, as well as balance your hormones.
The antioxidants contained in some fibrous vegetables play an essential role in eliminating free radicals that cause aging skin.
Examples of sources of fiber include berries, dark green leafy vegetables, nuts, and seeds.
Kelp
Besides being a very affordable source of nutrients, this nutritious alga contains a compound called, fucoxanthin; which can be seen in green plants.
Here is the good news: fucoxanthin helps the body burn fat, and this is bad news for cellulite! How about that? Go ahead and grab some kelp now, people!
Other sure-fire ways include.
- Limiting the consumption of refined grain products, because their by-products are sugar, which promotes the formation of cellulite.
- Choosing clean/organic protein sources such as grass-fed beef, pastured eggs, free-range poultry, and wild-caught fish, because, of their ability to promote metabolism and consequent cellulite reduction.
Dear Healthy Primers, understandably, the appearance of cellulite could be distressing for some people, because it alters their body image and diminishes their self-confidence.
If this is the case with you, I encourage you to rise above that limitation and begin employing the aforementioned suggestions.
Take baby steps each day, and you would be amazed at how quickly you would significantly minimize the appearance of cellulite on any part of your body.
What is your biggest challenge in minimizing the appearance of cellulite?
